Bastian Schweinsteiger has praised the “huge” amount of quality at Manchester United and hinted that more signings may be heading to Old Trafford in the near future.
Louis van Gaal has added ten new players to the Man United squad since taking charge a year ago, dramatically improving the quality of a side that had finished 7th in the Premier League prior to his arrival.
Schweinsteiger was added to van Gaal’s list of signings earlier this month on a three-year contract for a fee of around £15m.
The German World Cup winner revealed how impressed he has been with the quality of Man United’s squad.
“I have to say the quality is huge. I am sure with this team, it is possible to win titles and after a week I can say that,” Schweinsteiger said.
“We have a good defence, we have good defensive players, and we have quality players who can make the difference in high-level matches.
“There are some guys who will come later, so I think this team has a lot of possibilities and qualities.”
Coming from a player with unparalleled experience at this level, this is high praise indeed.
Schweinsteiger appears to have the ideal mindset for a club like United. For him, anything less than winning trophies is a failure. Let’s hope that the midfielder’s winning mentality and confidence rubs off on other members of the squad, and, most importantly, translates into what happens on the pitch.
