Manchester United’s Memphis Depay has been chosen by WhoScored.com as the Premier League’s best newcomer.
The Dutch wonderkid tops a list of ten players who have joined Premier League clubs this summer including Roberto Firmino, Dmitri Payet and Memphis’ new Man United teammate Bastian Schweinstiger.
Memphis fired PSV Eindhoven to the Eredivisie title last season and he is widely regarded to be one of the brightest young talents in world football.
The hype surrounding Memphis has steadily reached fever pitch since it was revealed he would be joining United and WhoScored have added to the frenzy.
A feature published on Sky Sports read: “Already a regular in the Dutch national squads having been given his chance under Louis van Gaal, Depay has scored 34 goals over the past two Eredivisie seasons, which is more than any other player despite the fact that he is still only 21.
“With 22 of said tally coming last season, along with five assists and 80 successful dribbles, the forward secured an outstanding rating of 7.92 from WhoScored.com.”
Memphis is set to light up the Premier League with his speed, strength and finishing skills. He undoubtedly has the physicality to adapt to one of the most demanding leagues in the world and has the confidence to fulfil his potential.
While most of the other players on the list are excellent, the buzz surrounding Depay is rare and United fans are excited to get the new campaign started to see what all the fuss is about.
