Paco Alcacer has urged Nicolas Otamendi to ignore reported interest from Manchester United this summer in order to stay at Valencia.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal looks for a world-class centre back.
There has also been interest from Manchester City but neither club are reportedly willing to meet his £35m buyout clause.
Alacer stressed that Otamendi is an “important” player for Valencia and that he wants him to stay.
“Nico is an important player and I’d love him to stay. He’s a key element for Valencia, if I said I didn’t want him to stay then I’d be lying,” he said.
The Argentine defender has made it clear he wants to leave the Spanish side this summer and his agent has reportedly met both Premier League clubs to discuss a potential switch.
He is hoping his future will be decided before the start of the new season and it doesn’t look like he’ll have to wait long. United have also been linked with Sergio Ramos but they would be unwise to risk losing Otamendi to City.
