David de Gea will play his first game of Manchester United’s pre-season tour having overcome his an injury to his back.
Louis van Gaal confirmed the good news about De Gea at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Barcelona game.
Man United fans will be delighted to see De Gea back in goal because it was widely considered that he may never play again for the club after hobbling off against Arsenal, but that has proved not to be the case.
“When a player is injured, it is the same thing what happens in the season,” Van Gaal added when asked if De Gea would be fit for the start of the season.
“Then you have to wait and you have seen it because in England it is more usual players are coming in after injuries, but I give them time to recover and build up their fitness.”
Having De Gea back in goal will be great to see but it unfortunately doesn’t guarantee he’ll be a United player next season.
The focus from now will be to integrate him back into the starting XI as soon as possible and with Ed Woodward standing firm over his valuation, Real Madrid will either have to cough up the money to sign him or see him stay at United for at least another year.
