Manchester United sign goalkeeper Sergio Romero

Manchester United have completed the signing of Argentinian goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

The 28-year-old has signed a three year contract with the option of a one-year extension.

Romero becomes the fifth official first-team signing of the summer following the acquisitions of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay.

With Victor Valdes set to leave the club, Romero has been brought in as his replacement before the Spanish goalkeeper has even completed his move away from United in what is a very swift decision from Louis van Gaal.

Romero played underneath Van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar back when the United boss was their manager, so he is well accustomed to playing under the Dutchman.

He also put in a man of the match performance against Van Gaal’s Netherlands side in the World Cup semi-finals and saved two penalties to knock them out of the tournament.

Romero is the latest addition to Van Gaal’s squad this summer but with other areas of the squad that still need to be improved, he is unlikely to be the last new face coming into Old Trafford.
