Manchester United transfer roundup: Sergio Romero completes move to Old Trafford

by Ben Topliss

Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

Man United completed their fifth summer signing in the early hours of Monday morning as Sergio Romero joined the club.

The 28-year-old Argentinian keeper is expected to replace Victor Valdes at Old Trafford after the former Barcelona keeper fell out with Louis van Gaal.

United are far from finished when it comes to their business in the transfer market this summer and van Gaal insisted he wants more creativity in his side during a sit down with the British press over the weekend.

Louis van Gaal 34

According to the experienced Dutchman, United do not have a Sergio Aguero, Neymar, Lionel Messi or Gareth Bale who can take a game by the scruff of the neck. Cristiano Ronaldo was a name floated to him but van Gaal refused to be drawn on whether or not the Portuguese forward will return to United.

Pedro is said to be closing in on a £22.8m move to United but van Gaal wants a bigger name to take his team forward next term.

Elsewhere, Nicolas Otamendi has returned to training with Valencia amid strong reports that United are in for him. The Argentine is reportedly unhappy at the Mestalla but he was all smiles as he linked up with his teammates following the Copa America. United will need to act quickly if they are to land Otamendi as Real Madrid have reportedly told Sergio Ramos that he will not be sold under any circumstances.

Laurent Blanc has confirmed Angel di Maria is close to completing a move to Paris St Germain. We’re expecting this deal to be pushed through this week, so long as there are no complications.

Finally, United youngsters Callum Gribbin and RoShaun Williams have penned new deals at Old Trafford. Van Gaal has a track record of bringing through young players and it is good to see him continuing this at United.
