Sergio Romero took part in his first training session as a Manchester United player today having completed his move on Monday evening.
The Argentinian goalkeeper was signed on a free transfer having been let go by Italian club Sampdoria and Louis van Gaal decided to bring him in, presumably as a direct replacement for Victor Valdes who is expected to leave.
Having reached the Copa America final with Chile alongside Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria this summer, Romero has had a very busy off season but he’ll now be thrown straight into the deep end with Man United to get him in ready in time for the start of the season.
Van Gaal wasted no time in taking a closer look at Romero to see what level of fitness and sharpness he is currently at on the training ground.
It’s great to see that attention to detail from Van Gaal. He doesn’t just leave it to his goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek to see Romero in action, he takes a look himself.
However, Romero won’t care too much as he’ll be in the honeymoon period for a weeks yet until it fully sinks in that he is a United player.
