The news that reported Manchester United target Jasper Cillessen will miss the first leg of Ajax’s Champions League tie against Rapid Wien on Wednesday due to injury has sent the rumour mill into overdrive.
If Cillessen doesn’t play, he will avoid being cup-tied for the competition, meaning he would still be a viable transfer option for Man United if David de Gea leaves for Real Madrid.
Of course, anyone would be a downgrade on De Gea but Cillessen’s potential arrival has divided opinion amongst the United faithful.
We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on whether or not they would be happy if the 26-year-old moved to Old Trafford:
@PeoplesPerson_ IF De Gea does leave, we do need a top class keeper, and Cillessen can become that at United.

@PeoplesPerson_ he's not world class but he's good. I'd rather wait until next year and go for Lloris if he's fit.

@PeoplesPerson_ wouldn’t be my 1st choice but if he’s good enough for Van Gaal & Hoek then that’s good enough for me

@PeoplesPerson_ The people saying he's not good enough, how many times have they actually watched him?

@PeoplesPerson_ I think Frans Hoek has earned our trust.

@PeoplesPerson_ I'm amazed all these people of seen enough of him to right him off. Remember everyone doing the same with Dave

Cillessen is relatively inexperienced on the biggest stage, although he did star in the World Cup semi-finals under van Gaal last summer.
However, his peak years are very much ahead of him. Van Gaal and goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek will know everything about Cillessen and, at the end of the day, it is only their opinion that matters. The hope for United fans is that they know what they’re doing.
