Manchester United ended their pre-season tour of the USA with a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint Germain in Chicago.

The Reds started brightly but ultimately fell to two first half goals from the French champions.

David De Gea started just his second game of this pre-season and was immediately the centre of attention as miscommunication between the Spaniard and his back four allowed Blaise Matuidi in for the opening goal of the game. The Parisians then doubled their lead as Zlatan Ibrahimovic started and finished a simple move that the United defence couldn’t deal with.

United were unable to break down a stubborn PSG defence. Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay linked up well on multiple occasions but couldn’t fashion a serious scoring chance for the Reds.

Despite ending with a whimper, United will hope that the pre-season tour is simply a stepping stone to achieving much more during the regular season, which kicks off in 10 days against Tottenham Hotspur.
