Manchester United’s Rafael close to Lyon move – report

Manchester United defender Rafael is close to completing a move to French side Lyon, according to L’Equipe.

Rafael has been frozen out by Louis van Gaal since the second half of last season and he was not part of the squad which toured the United States of America last month.

His departure has been on the cards for a while and it looks like he will finally find a way out of Man United thanks to Lyon.

The Brazilian is a fans’ favourite at Old Trafford due to his full blooded performances but unfortunately his way of playing is far too adventurous for the pragmatic van Gaal.

He preferred Antonio Valencia at right-back for the majority of last season and has now brought in Matteo Darmian. The latter was superb in the USA and it looks like he will be the first-choice right-back for the foreseeable future.

Rafael is still only 25-years-old and has his best years ahead of him. They won’t be spent at United but hopefully he can resurrect his career in France.
