Manchester United’s pursuit of Pedro Rodriguez is likely to accelerate this week and Sport in Spain believe it could happen even faster than that.
The Spanish newspaper say Ed Woodward is going to visit Barcelona’s offices tomorrow with Man United’s final offer for Pedro and suggest that a figure around €25m is what United want to pay, rather than his €30m release clause, which is somewhat risky given that the difference is only €5m.
With 73 goals and 41 assists in 259 appearances for Barcelona over the last six seasons, Pedro has been a real asset to their attacking options but the arrival of Luis Suarez means he is no longer a regular starter for them any more.
With Angel di Maria now closing in on his transfer to Paris St-Germain having arrived at Doha last night to undergo medical tests ahead of his move, United look to be lining up a deal for Pedro swiftly in order to immediately replace him.
So long as United can agree on a fee for Pedro, nothing stands in the way for his transfer to United because he’s looking for a move to secure regular first-team football again, something Louis van Gaal can offer him.
