Manchester United target Sergio Ramos has agreed to sign a new contract with Real Madrid, according to El Pais in Spain.
Ramos has been the subject of a huge transfer saga this summer which, if completed, would likely see Man United goalkeeper David de Gea move in the opposite direction.
There has, however, been a sudden turn of events. The report states that Ramos has agreed to sign a new contract at Madrid, with officials at the Bernabeu confident that De Gea will join them next season regardless having already made a verbal agreement with the club.
This would mark a dramatic change in stance from Ramos give that Cadena SER reported he was angry with Madrid only a matter of days ago.
Despite many fans desire to tempt Ramos to Old Trafford, supporters are now becoming tired of such an endless saga. With different reports circulating each week, no-one really knows what is happening between the two clubs.
Should United fans wave goodbye to the possibility of Ramos joining Man United now?
It is unlikely that United will budge from their standpoint this late in the window. Ed Woodward has handled the situation remarkably well throughout the summer, refusing to bow down to the usual pressure Madrid place on clubs.
However, many people still believe that they will only see Ramos in a United shirt if De Gea moves the other way, something no United fan wants to see.
With United’s opening Premier League fixture less than a week away, supporters will be hoping for a conclusion to the Ramos saga sooner rather than later.
Regardless of what happens with Ramos, it is still widely accepted that United need a new centre-back if they are to challenge for the title. With Ramos reportedly poised to sign a new deal with Los Blancos, it may be time for the United hierarchy to move onto other targets.
