FC Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez is edging closer to joining Manchester United every day.
To use Sport’s turn of phrase, ‘white smoke’ is expected soon. For those that don’t know, it’s in reference to the Vatican which billows out white smoke when a new Pope has been elected.
Marca have chipped in with an article of their own and say Barcelona are going to lose a very important player in Pedro, thanks to his defensive contribution off the ball as well as his attacking threat with the ball at his feet.
The Spanish newspaper says negotiations have begun between Man United and Barcelona, with a fee around €27m being offered which the Spanish side will accept with add-ons and bonuses.
Overall, a deal is expected to be finalised soon and Pedro is likely to become United’s sixth summer signing, so long a there are no complications along the way (touch wood).
Pedro, 28, really will be a great immediate replacement for Angel di Maria and with so much experience under his belt, he’ll come in and hopefully settle down straight away.
Over the years United have rested on their laurels and failed to adequately replace departing players quickly enough. However, it looks like that trend is going to be bucked with Di Maria and Pedro.
