Louis van Gaal confirms David de Gea will not play against Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed David de Gea will not be considered for selection against Tottenham Hotspur amid ongoing speculation he is set to join Real Madrid.

De Gea has been at the centre of a transfer saga all summer and it looks to have taken it’s toll on his focus.

The Spaniard looked out of sorts against Paris Saint-Germain in the final game of the pre-season tour and was one of the players at fault for the French side’s opening goal.

It is likely that Sergio Romero will instead deputise against Spurs, with Sam Johnstone and Anders Lindegaard also in contention to feature.

”It is not easy for David De Gea to manage his situation now,” van Gaal said.

You know that we have problems with De Gea. He shall not play, so I don’t have any concerns [about him this weekend].”

Victor Valdes is still at Man United but it is highly unlikely that he will be in the squad as he has fallen out with van Gaal.

Whether or not De Gea’s absence means he will definitely leave for Madrid remains to be seen but the signs don’t look good. It will be devastating if he does go, as United have developed him from a scrawny youngster to one of the best in the world. They will need to get a replacement and quickly if he does leave.
