Manchester United transfer roundup: David de Gea dropped for Tottenham Hotspur game amid ongoing speculation

Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

There was big news on Friday as Louis van Gaal confirmed that David de Gea will not start against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend amid ongoing speculation he is set to join Real Madrid.

The Spanish keeper is not said to be in the right frame of mind, which will be worrying for United fans to hear just a day before the new campaign kicks off.

Elsewhere, United announced their new squad numbers and there was a glaring omission as the No.9 was kept free.

There have been rumours that this space will soon be occupied by Barcelona’s Pedro, who is closing in on a move to Old Trafford. Barcelona have reportedly identified a replacement in Celta Vigo’s Nolito.

Pedro’s arrival would be bad news for Ashley Young but the winger will take heart from the fact that United rewarded him with a new deal on Friday. The Englishman was superb last season and his new contract is richly deserved.

Finally, Valencia legend Mario Kempes revealed that the club are doing everything they can to stop Nicolas Otamendi leaving amid interest from United and Manchester City.
