Manchester United unveil squad numbers ahead of new season

Manchester United have officially revealed their squad numbers for the upcoming season.

The biggest news is that Memphis Depay has been handed the iconic No.7 shirt.

Man United have had a succession of disappointing No.7s in recent years and the Dutchman will be hoping to buck the trend.

As for the rest of United’s new signings, Matteo Darmian is No.36, Bastian Schweinsteiger No.31, Morgan Schneiderlin No.28 and Sergio Romero No.20.

David de Gea continues as the club’s No.1, despite speculation he is set to leave for Real Madrid.

Victor Valdes hasn’t been allocated a squad number at all, which all but confirms he will leave Old Trafford. For the purists, United have not given anyone the No.2, No.3 or No.9 shirt.

Anticipation for the new season has been building and it will soon reach fever pitch. Louis van Gaal will want to hit the ground running with a win against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
