Memphis Depay has admitted he is honoured to become Manchester United’s new No.7 having been handed the shirt number.
Angel di Maria departed Man United after only 12 months at the club and left the famous No.7 shirt vacant once again.
Despite the added pressures of it, Memphis wanted to take on that responsibility and you can see just why in his message to United fans after being given it.
“Time to make my presence felt…” Depay tweeted from his official Twitter account, using a picture of his shows with “Score my first EPL goal” on the laces.

Memphis is not waiting around and has made his intentions clear. He wants to hit the ground running at United and has every confidence in himself of achieving that.
What the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo showed fans in recent times is that confidence and hard work are two aspects which any successful No.7 needs to have in abundance. You only have to look at Antonio Valencia and Di Maria to see the opposite end of the spectrum.
The fact Memphis wanted to take on the shirt, wanted the added responsibility, wanted the pressure, means a lot and is a testament to his mental approach despite the fact he is only 21.
There’s a reason PSV named their youth academy’s gym after Memphis and use his personal bests as the records for each machine. He set a bar at PSV which nobody reached before and now that he is at Old Trafford, he’ll be looking to replicate that legacy.
