Manchester United wasted no time in getting Memphis Depay‘s No.7 shirt on sale in the megastore.
The Dutchman was announced as Angel di Maria’s immediate replacement as Man United’s No.7 following his move to Paris St-Germain.
While there was a chain of thought which felt the No.7 shirt should be left empty until somebody had earned it rather than simply being given it, Louis van Gaal decided to fulfil Memphis’ wish and let him take the famous shirt.
It was a responsibility which Memphis wanted and one which embodies his attitude so far at United.
His confidence has bordered on arrogance all summer long and that supreme belief in his own ability could drive him to do great things at United, something fans are certainly hoping happens.

Memphis is the perfect fit for the No.7 shirt. Talented, driven and committed, throughout his career he hasn’t avoided hard work and that puts him in good stead at United.
Recent occupants of the shirt such as Angel di Maria, Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen have done nothing to add to the legacy left behind by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham, a trend which fans want to see reversed by Memphis.
By the time he leaves United, will Memphis be in the Di Maria category or the Beckham one? Here’s hoping it is the latter.
