Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal believes that he may still need to sign two more players this summer, including a goalkeeper.
Speaking to MUTV, the Dutchman said the departure of Angel Di Maria and the ongoing saga with David De Gea may lead to more signings.
Di Maria completed his move to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday and Van Gaal has confirmed that he is looking for a replacement.
Van Gaal, who is said to be keen on Barcelona’s Pedro, recently said he is looking for more “speed and creativity” in his squad.
“I think Manchester United have to always be a challenger or champion,” he said.
“Of course we have problems still with the goalkeeper, so we need maybe two more players.”
The manager’s comments about a goalkeeper are worrying. With De Gea set to sit out United’s Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur, the Spaniard could well be on his way out of the club. Should he leave, van Gaal will look to bring in another goalkeeper rather than promote new signing Sergio Romero.
Equally concerning is the fact that van Gaal failed to mention signing a centre-back. It looks like United will head into the new campaign with Daley Blind there, which is far from ideal.
