Memphis Depay was blown away by the ‘amazing’ support from Manchester United fans inside Old Trafford during his debut against Tottenham Hotspur.
Donning his new No.7 shirt, Memphis played 70 minutes before he was taken off by Louis van Gaal and although he didn’t score, he looked comfortable at every moment.
The 75,000 United fans of Old Trafford is more than double Memphis’ old home ground of 35,000 at the Philips Stadion, so it’s not a crowd he’s used to playing in.
Old Trafford was in full voice today against Spurs. With five players making their senior debut on the opening day of the season, there was a lot of build-up to the game and fans were excited because football was finally back after the summer break.

If Memphis was amazed by the crowd on a Saturday afternoon against Tottenham Hotspur, imagine what he’s going to think in a big Champions League night or the derby against Manchester City.
The biggest positive from Memphis’ debut was that he didn’t seem to be overawed by the occasion at all. He was confident in himself, tried a few tricks, was willing to shoot and spotted some intelligent passes at times. All in all, hell be happy with the debut but will want more from himself in his next appearance.
