Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia, according to reports emanating from Italy.
The 29-year-old was linked with Man United earlier in the summer but the arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger seemingly poured cold water on any potential move.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport now say an agreement has been reached with Biglia over a four-year contract.
Should he join, Biglia would become United’s third midfield signing of the summer after Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin.
Many United fans will be confused with rumours of Biglia surfacing. His natural position is as a central midfielder which has now become one of the team’s strongest positions given the strength in depth and quality of the players Louis van Gaal has at his disposal.
Van Gaal has been very systematic and calculated with his signings so far this summer. He has brought in players to fix key problems and weak points in the squad, so in that sense a move for Biglia would be an unwelcome change of approach.
Right now, United’s weakness lies in central defence and that is a well known fact. If there is to be any more signings made this summer, fans would like to see a new centre-back join and potentially a striker.
