Fenerbahce deny links with Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj

by Robbie Dunne

Fenerbahce have denied rumours linking them with a move for Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj.

Januzaj had been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this season based on his lack of playing time under Louis van Gaal last season.

The club signed Memphis Depay in the off-season and with Ashley Young, Juan Mata and and the emerging Andreas Pereira set to see most of the playing time, a loan spell away for Januzaj was seen as a potential option.

However, the Turkish club have released a statement: denying any links to the United youngster.

“Reports today in the Fotomaç, Ukra and Takvim newspapers linking Fenerbahçe with Januzaj and Feghouli are false. We are not planning to sign either player.”

Januzaj’s form in the pre-season progressively improved as the tour continued and his excellent performance against Barcelona shows he may be able to adapt to the striker role.

Louis van Gaal has previously alluded to using Januzaj as a striker and it’s certainly a position where United need more strength in depth, rather than on the left wing where there is ample cover.

Everybody wants to see Januzaj flourish like he did in his breakthrough season but if there simply isn’t going to be enough opportunity for him this year, maybe a loan move away is the best option for him.

Let us know what you think – would you like to see Januzaj leave on loan this season?
