Manchester United transfer roundup: Pedro asks to leave Barcelona?

by Ben Topliss

Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

Wednesday was all about Pedro once again as the Barcelona forward scored an extra-time winner coming off the substitute’s bench in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Prior to the match, new Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez revealed that Pedro had asked to leave the club amid interest from Man United.

However, the player himself later rubbished these claims, insisting he doesn’t want to leave Barcelona but may be forced to due to a lack of game time. Pedro’s teammates, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi, both voiced their support for him following the victory.

Elsewhere, reports from Spain suggested that Sergio Ramos has signed a new contract at Real Madrid. It is not the first time a player has flirted with United before getting a new deal but the news still comes as a bitter blow.

United may be targeting Nicolas Otamendi as an alternative to Ramos and the reliable SillasGol have reported that the Argentine will move to the Premier League soon. When quizzed on the matter, one of their journalists stated that Otamendi is closer to United than Manchester City.

Finally, Torino have reportedly registered their interest in Javier Hernandez. The club are hopeful that United will treat them more favourably when it comes to negotiations following Matteo Darmian’s transfer earlier this summer.
