Peter Schmeichel believes Hugo Lloris should sign for Manchester United as he is “exactly” what the club needs.
Lloris did not play against United on the opening day of the season as he continues his recovery following a broken wrist suffered at the start of the summer.
Lloris reportedly has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy but the latter has been known to throw spanners in the works of possible deals involving his star players.
“I’d like Lloris to go there. He fits the bill. He’s exactly what Man United needs, someone who’s brave enough to sweep up,” Schmeichel said.
“With [Thibaut] Courtois he is one of only two keepers who controls their box and that’s what United need more than anything.
“And he’s proven in the Premier League and that’s very important.”
There is no doubt that the goalkeeping situation at United is nothing short of a shambles. This was evident when David de Gea, Victor Valdes and Anders Lindegaard were spotted watching the Spurs game from the stands as their teammates took to the field.
Sergio Romero started in goal and had a solid debut but if United are to challenge their rivals for the Premier League title, they will need a world-class goalkeeper and the general sense is that Romero is not quite good enough.
