Louis van Gaal has insisted that Manchester United will not sign players for the “sake of it” as the summer transfer window draws to a close.
Man United have been linked with several players including Pedro, Nicolas Otamendi and Harry Kane in recent weeks but van Gaal is adamant that the club will not panic buy.
United are still in need of players in certain areas but it looks like their real targets are currently unavailable.
Van Gaal, speaking at his press conference ahead of the Aston Villa game on Friday, has insisted United will not be pushed into transfers that are not necessary.
“It is always our aim to improve the squad. But we won’t buy someone for the sake of it. Our aim is always to improve the squad and when it is possible we shall do it,” he said.
United are still in need of a centre-back and a striker and should still be considering possible transfers in these positions despite van Gaal’s comments.
Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Bastian Schweinsteiger completed their transfers to United earlier in the summer with a minimum of fuss and fans will be hoping the club are doing the same things behind the scenes with a few more targets ahead of an assault on the Premier League title.
