Bastian Schweinsteiger might have played twice before at Old Trafford but he was blown away by the atmosphere he experienced during his debut.
When he started warming up against Tottenham Hotspur, Schweinsteiger was greeted to rapturous applause from the home fans and that noise grew in volume when he was brought on for Michael Carrick.
That sort of atmosphere will be there all season at Old Trafford and it’s something Schweinsteiger was blown away by.
“It was amazing, really,” Schweinsteiger told MUTV in an interview this week.
“I was surprised and I have to say ‘thank you’ to all the supporters. It was a great feeling and yes, at the end, we won so it was a good day for us.
“I’d played twice before in the Champions League but this was something new on Saturday. The support is huge; I knew that before I came here and saw it in the USA as we had a lot of supporters there too. It was great and a special day for me on Saturday.”
If Schweinsteiger thought that atmosphere was raucous, he needs to wait until Liverpool pay a visit to Old Trafford.
Over the last two years there has been a lot of change at United but one thing that has stayed strong is the fans and going into what is sure to be a very exciting season, there’ll be plenty of loud voices once again this year.
