Louis van Gaal confirms David de Gea will not play Aston Villa

Louis van Gaal has confirmed David de Gea will not be in Manchester United’s squad for their game against Aston Villa on Friday.

The goalkeeper was left out of the season opener against Tottenham Hotspur because Van Gaal said he wasn’t in the right mental condition.

Obviously nothing has changed in the last week and Sergio Romero is in line to keep his spot in the starting XI.

When asked whether De Gea would return to the team, Van Gaal said: “No, it is the same situation. He remains out of the squad.”

United are in a very tricky situation right now with De Gea. He wants to join Real Madrid this summer, United are unwilling to sell for anything less than a world record fee for a goalkeeper an Madrid are refusing to pay that amount.

That is creating a vicious circle which is showing no signs of being resolved and that, in turn, is either stopping De Gea from being mentally ready for a game or stopping Van Gaal from using him.

United fans are waiting for the end of the transfer window with bated breath. Either De Gea is going to remain on the bench until it closes before being integrated back into the team or he will be sold and replaced.

Do you think David de Gea will be a Manchester United player come the end of the transfer window?
