Nick Powell is closing in on his return for Manchester United after what has been a long and tough period for him.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been injured for months but after a full summer of recovery, he should soon be ready to play football again.
It’s not exactly gone to plan for Powell so far in his Man United career. Injuries, poor loan spells and questions over his attitude and professionalism have all contributed to what has been a sustained period of stagnated growth.
When he arrived from Crewe Alexandra after spearheading them to promotion, Powell had such promise.
Rio Ferdinand described the youngster as somebody who looked like he belonged at United and Sir Alex Ferguson described him as a potential successor to Paul Scholes, yet he has only made a few appearances for the senior side for one reason or another.

What’s in store for Powell now? He’s got to start from the ground up once again in what will be a fresh start under Louis van Gaal and put the previous few years of his career completely behind him.
Powell has had a tough time of it at United so far but this upcoming year will define whether he can make it as a player at Old Trafford. If he can stay fit and impress with the U21s, or out on loan again, then there’s still a chance he can make a name for himself at the club.
