The future of De Gea has been the talk of the town all summer and it took a soap opera turn this week when contrasting claims came out in the press.
On the one hand, Louis van Gaal said he didn’t feel De Gea wanted to play for United in either the Tottenham Hotspur or Aston Villa games but, almost immediately, there were reports to the contrary saying that was not the case.
Then, to add a little bit more drama to the situation, like some cliffhanger music in a thriller, follow-up reports said De Gea was ‘furious’ with Van Gaal for being asked to train with the U21s.
Everything quickly descended into a muddy mess in the press like an overdramatised Eastenders plot-line yet, here we are, no closer to finding out where De Gea will play next season.
At this stage, United fans just want it over and done with but the reality is that there are still three weeks of rumours, turns and unexpected plot twists to keep us all on the edge of our seat until De Gea either stays or joins Real Madrid.
United fans are used to transfer sagas having had front row seats for the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Arturo Vidal escapades before but with only a few weeks left in the window and no clear solution in sight, this current De Gea situation could have far worse repercussions for the club.
