Louis van Gaal: We’re ready for Club Brugge

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal feels his side is ready for the visit of Club Brugge on Tuesday.

The UEFA Champions League qualifying play-off marks the return of European football to Old Trafford for the first time since Van Gaal has taken charge and the Dutchman is looking forward to the challenge.

It is a crucial tie for Man United who simply must qualify for the group stage of the competition and Van Gaal feels the side can carry their good form in the league into Europe as well.

When asked if United are ready for the first-leg, Van Gaal told Manutd.com: “Yes, I think when you win two times then you shall have a lot of confidence.”

The manager exuded caution as well, however, warning fans and players alike that it will not be easy for the Reds.

He said: “But every match is difficult and Belgian teams can play very compactly, they can defend and a team always has a chance of winning. Like on [Friday], every team has a chance and if they score out of that chance then it shall be very difficult.”

United’s absence in the Champions League last year hugely disappointed fans and Van Gaal will be aiming to put that right by getting past Brugge.

Having done the hard part in finishing fourth in the league last season, the Reds now need to complete the job and get themselves into the group stage for the first time since 2013.
