Juan Mata praises Adnan Januzaj and Memphis Depay for their contribution against Aston Villa

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata was delighted for Adnan Januzaj after the youngster scored his first goal of the season.

Januzaj gave Man United the lead in the first half against Aston Villa after a beautiful through ball from Mata himself.

Louis van Gaal awarded the Belgian with his first appearance for United this season and his first start in six months, which proved to be the right decision given his match winning contribution.

Speaking to Manutd.com, Mata said he was very happy to see Adnan rewarded for the hard work he has been putting in.

“I’m very happy for Adnan,” Mata explained.

“He’s very young and he’s been patient all this time, so I’m very happy for him. It was a great goal, he finished it very well with his right foot and we’re happy with him.”

The Spaniard also provided encouragement for another young winger, Memphis Depay. The 20-year-old struggled slightly against Villa, missing a clear-cut chance in the second half. However, Mata is confident Memphis will find his feet soon.

He added: “Of course, the good thing is that he [Memphis] is having the chances. He’s getting in the position to have the chances, two today I think, but the goals will come for him. He’s a great player, a young player, with a lot of qualities and, today, he was close. I think he will score for us very soon.”

Attention now turns to United’s Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge on Tuesday where the Reds will look to carry on their good start to the season.

After Mata and Januzaj notched an assist and a goal respectively, they will be looking for more of the same as European football returns to Old Trafford.
