The 31-year-old came on at half-time for Michael Carrick and instantly brought an element of control to Man United’s play.

The World Cup winner also had a couple of opportunities to get on the scoresheet in front of the Stretford End but some resolute defending denied him on both occasions.
Having started on the substitute’s bench in all three of United’s games this season, Schweinsteiger will now be hoping to push on and make his first start under van Gaal since being reunited with the former Bayern Munich manager.
With Newcastle United visiting Old Trafford on Saturday, Schweinsteiger will see the game as the perfect opportunity to really show United supporters what he is all about.
