Southampton deny Manchester United bid for Sadio Mane

Southampton officials have denied receiving any bid from Manchester United for Sadio Mane.

Reports earlier today said Man United had submitted a bid for the 23-year-old last week but Southampton have denied that is the case.

United were expected to sign Pedro Rodriguez from FC Barcelona but he is now close to completing a move to Chelsea and these latest developments are the latest piece of news in what has been a whirlwind day of transfers for the club.

There had been no links between Mane and United at any point during the summer but all of a sudden there are widespread reports in the British press that a bid had been lodged last week.

Having joined Southampton in 2014 from Red Bull Salzburg in an estimated £12m deal, Mane has gone on to score 11 goals in 35 appearances for the South coast club but absolutely nobody expected United to be in for him.

Louis van Gaal had alluded to the fact there could be a surprise signing and if Mane was to arrive at Old Trafford, it would certainly be one that very few people predicted.
