Matteo Darmian has revealed he “didn’t have to think about it for a second” when he learnt that Manchester United were interested in him.
The Italian right-back signed with Man United this summer and has excelled in the opening three games of the season at his new club.
Darmian’s move to Manchester was done quietly and with a minimum of fuss earlier in the window and was wrapped up within days of the first reports.
Darmian believes that it is “impossible” to ignore interest from United.
“When Manchester United called me, I didn’t have to think about it for a second – it’s impossible to turn them down,” he told Tuttosport.
“I still follow Toro [former club Torino], they did well against Pescara and have the ability to get better. Everything’s in place for another good season.”
United struggled to identify and maintain a consistent back four last season and will be delighted at how Luke Shaw and Darmian have fit into their left and right-back roles, respectively.
It will hurt United fans to read this news in lieu of Pedro joining Chelsea and Nicolas Otamendi joining Manchester City but it is a nice sentiment from Darmian. He will be looking to kick on against Newcastle United this weekend.
