Phil Jones is the only player who will miss Manchester United’s game against Newcastle United through injury today.
The defender has thrombosis in his calf and is likely to miss the rest of August’s games with it but thankfully Chris Smalling‘s superb form means that, right now, United look very assured at centre-back with Daley Blind also exceeding expectations in the role.
David de Gea will not feature for United once again and is unlikely to do so until the transfer window closes. At that point, he’ll either be reinstated as United’s No.1 or be playing for Real Madrid but Van Gaal has assured fans the club has no intention of selling him.
Marouane Fellaini won’t be able to follow up his goalscoring cameo against Club Brugge with an appearance this afternoon because he is serving the final game of his three match suspension. That’s a real shame because he was hugely effective in the final stages of the Brugge match.
As well as these four players who won’t feature, Victor Valdes and Jonny Evans were both not with the squad yesterday when they checked into the Lowry hotel as they traditionally do before a home game, so neither are expected to be involved in the match day squad.
