In a world where almost every player under the sun is linked with Manchester United in a transfer window, fans find it hard to be surprised by any sort of transfer rumour.
However, The Sun has managed to take us all by complete surprise by reporting a ‘world exclusive’ that Man United have held secret talks to try and buy Barcelona’s Neymar.
No, you didn’t read that wrong. Somehow, the silly season has managed to get a little bit sillier than we all thought it could.
Maybe Ed Woodward wasn’t in Barcelona for Pedro after all and Neymar was always the player who United were in for? It all makes sense now.

Neil Custis is staunchly defending the piece as well and is firmly standing by his own word:
Been wondering about Ed Woodward's trips to Barcelona?

Wondering who the big name they are really after, and been trying months to get?
— Neil Custis (@ncustisTheSun) August 21, 2015
No they probably won't get him, but they have absolutely been trying.

For those lining up to knock it down, do so if you like, but it's spot on, no matter what denials might follow
— Neil Custis (@ncustisTheSun) August 21, 2015
Odds are against, I know, but point is United have been trying and trying hard

Why wouldn’t the Brazilian born Neymar want to leave the Spanish climate and a treble winning Barcelona side, which currently has by far and away the best attacking trio in football, in order to move to Manchester? (no offence, Manchester).
As appealing as United is, there’s not a chance that either Barcelona or Neymar would even consider contemplating the mere idea of striking a transfer deal.
Somehow, the transfer window has managed to top itself this summer and become even more of a muddy mess than its predecessors. We’re looking forward to next summer when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will both be joining United!
