Bastian Schweinsteiger was substituted in the second half against Newcastle United with a cut ankle according to BT Sport.
The German midfielder was looking very comfortable for the first 25 minutes but pulled up holding his ankle after a challenge and his grimaced face indicated he was playing in a bit of pain until he was taken off by Louis van Gaal.
Today was Schweinsteiger’s full Man United debut and he’ll be frustrated that he wasn’t able to complete the full 90 minutes.
United’s noticeable dip in tempo once Schweinsteiger picked up his injury was indicative of how much he contributed to the control which United held over Newcastle.
Fans certainly let Schweinsteiger know what they thought of his performance and gave him a rousing applause when he was taken off for Carrick.

Schweinsteiger may have been fit to start but he still looked a couple of yards short of full fitness but it was enough to convince Van Gaal he was ready to play.
Once they are both fully match fit, it will be interesting to see who Van Gaal prefers to choose in his starting XI.
As for Schweinsteiger’s ankle cut, fans will be hoping it is nothing more than a scratch and that he will be fine for the midweek game against Club Brugge.
