Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United aren’t getting Neymar

by Leo Nieboer

Rio Ferdinand has insisted Manchester United will never be able to sign Barcelona forward Neymar Jr.

Talk of the 23-year-old’s potential move to Old Trafford arose after Louis van Gaal jettisoned the club’s long-term interest in Pedro, with many presuming that the Dutchman wanted to focus elsewhere.

However, the notion of signing Neymar is one which has raised plenty of eyebrows. Any speculation surrounding this story was affirmatively felled by Neymar’s agent, who insisted that the Brazilian was going nowhere.

Following that, Ferdinand took to Twitter in order to further rubbish these rumours.

The Pedro saga has seemingly paved the way for a downpour in fruitless transfer rumours at Man United, and the prattle surrounding Neymar is a concrete example of just that.

As a footballer, Neymar divides opinion. Some laud his technical brilliance, others lambast his tendency to be a fragile show-pony. However, as a bold and skilful winger, his addition to Van Gaal’s squad would add some much needed flair and creativity to United’s attack.

But as Ferdinand rightly says, supporters shouldn’t indulge themselves too much. Neymar, who is understandably happy about playing alongside Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
