Manchester United are expected to step up their chase for Southampton winger Sadio Mane with a bid in excess of £20m this week.
Jason Burt from The Telegraph says Man United are going to continue their pursuit of Mane despite Southampton’s insistence he is not for sale.
Pedro’s move to Chelsea means United are still left with a real need to bring in a new pacy winger to speed up what has been a cumbersome attack so far this season.
Something which could complicate any potential move this week is that Mane was taken off this weekend with a suspected injury after a collision with Watford’s goalkeeper.
Mane was not a name any United fan expected to be linked with this summer but there is almost a sense of desperation in the air for United at this late stage in the window.
One thing which really doesn’t play to United’s advantage is that clubs are well aware of how much money we have to spend and the fact there isn’t much time left in the summer transfer window means that other clubs have an immediate advantage over us.
It all depends on whether United can, and want to, match Southampton’s valuation of Mane. As they have shown in the last two years, they are prepared to sell their best players for the right price, as does pretty much every club.
One thing is for sure – United need a bit of pace in their attack and maybe a new signing is the way for Van Gaal to solve that issue.
