Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has insisted he wants Neymar to stay at the Spanish club for the rest of his career.
Instead, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claimed that the stories are just a ploy from Neymar as he negotiates a better deal at the Nou Camp.
Bartomeu moved to end the speculation by revealing that contract talks with the Brazilian will happen “over the next months”.
“We do not want [Neymar] to leave. He is young, we want him to retire here, at our club. He must stay here,” Bartomeu said.
“Over the next months we will talk about a new contract for Neymar. He must stay here, not just three years, but five or 10 years.”
The chances of Barcelona letting Neymar go this late in the transfer window are extremely slim as they are in the midst of a transfer ban and have just let go of Pedro.
Even if Barcelona were to accept a big money bid from Man United, it is doubtful that Neymar would want to leave arguably the best side in the world. With so little time left before the window shuts, Ed Woodward would be wise to focus his attention elsewhere.
