An exit from Man United had always been on the cards for Valdes ever since he fell out with Louis van Gaal following his refusal to play for the U21s.
Valdes would be expected to become Besiktas’ first choice goalkeeper if he were to complete a move.
The Spaniard initially joined Man United in order to facilitate his rehabilitation process after suffering a long term-knee injury with Barcelona and van Gaal eventually handed the 33-year-old his full debut in the final game of the 2014/15 season against Hull City.
However, van Gaal has since ostracised Valdes from his plans for the new season, publicly criticising him for not following his philosophy by refusing to play for the U21s and subsequently confirmed the Spaniard has no future at Old Trafford.
After receiving such a brutal pasting from the manager back in July, it’s hard to see why the goalkeeper remains in Manchester, especially with the transfer window less than a week away from closing.
The debacle that unfolded back last month was a stern example of van Gaal’s ruthlessness, but also an indication of Valdes’ troublesome personality, which is perhaps why clubs haven’t been queuing up to sign the ageing keeper.
Either way, no United fan will expect to see Valdes to feature for the club for as long as van Gaal is in charge.
