The 21-year-old Dutchman was signed from PSV for a fee of £25 million in July and while he is yet to find the net domestically for his new club, he put in an outstanding individual display in Man United’s Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge with two goals and an assist.
Memphis, who scored 22 league goals with PSV last year, has admitted he is using Wayne Rooney as a mentor in order to help improve his overall game.
Regardless of Rooney’s mixed form so far this season, he’s in the perfect place to give Memphis advice having arrived at the club with huge expectations on his shoulders at a young age.
United fans will hope that Rooney’s work ethic and tutelage, combined with Memphis’ slight cockiness and natural ability, harbours all the ingredients to take the Dutchman to the zenith of world football.
United fans saw Memphis’ outstanding individual ability for PSV on countless occasions last term and it shouldn’t be too long before he is recreating the same goals in the famous United shirt.
