Manchester United’s Schmidfield partnership of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin were all smiles on their way to Brugge this morning ahead of tomorrow night’s crucial Champions League qualifier.
The midfield duo haven’t had the opportunity to play together very often for Man United so far and have only started one game together but when Schweinsteiger is fully fit, they’ll no doubt regularly feature in the same starting XI.
Schneiderlin has been quietly impressive so far at United. He goes about his job effectively without a fuss and against Newcastle he showed some glimpses of glamour with a few great touches and runs which show his game is about more than just tackles and interceptions.
As for Schweinsteiger, he made his first competitive start at the weekend and was in supreme control of the game until a knock took the wind out of his sails. Louis van Gaal may turn to his European experience tonight in order to keep the game in United’s control.

For years, United’s midfield was woeful and by far and away the weakest point in the squad but with the addition of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin, it has been transformed into arguably the strongest area.
When both are fully fit and in form, United will have one of the best central midfields in the league and fans are looking forward to seeing that in action. Viva la Schmidfield.
