Herrera has been left on the periphery so far this season for Man United but looks set to be given the opportunity he has been waiting for which is great news.
Fans are keen to see whether Herrera’s inclusion in the squad can solve United’s current problem in attack. There has been a distinct lack of pace and tempo going forward which his incisive and fast style of passing could break down, and he’s got a good finish on him as well which has been the other issue.
In such a competitive midfield which now boasts the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger, every player has to fight for their place in every starting XI this season but unfortunately for Herrera he hasn’t been first choice up until this point.
However, he found himself in the exact same situation last year and forced his way into van Gaal’s thinking with a string of excellent performances. If he can put one of those in tonight against Club Brugge, there is every chance he can do the same thing again.
Herrera’s a cracking little player and the more we see of him this season the better. If service has been the problem for United’s forwards, there aren’t many players better suited to solving that issue than Herrera and we’ll hopefully get to see that tonight.
