The defender, who has started every game this season, was once again an imperious force on the left side of defence as Man United eased past Brugge to qualify for the Champions League group stages.
Fitness and injury issues were a feature of Shaw’s debut season at Old Trafford but the youngster has looked like a completely new player this term.
His assured, dynamic display against Brugge was further evidence of his prominence in an increasingly solid United defence.
United fans will be pleased to see their team finally contain two competent wing-backs, with Matteo Darmian having another good night on the right. However, Shaw’s performance was the finest amongst a back four who have racked up four clean sheets in their opening five games, which is something United haven’t managed to do since 2005.
In a highly charged first half, Shaw diffused any threat coming down Brugge’s right hand side with a remarkable combination of immense timing and sheer power, repeatedly winning the ball from Brugge players before bursting forward.
As the game lost any semblance of a contest in the second half, Shaw was hardly troubled defensively and begun to pose an attacking threat against a flagging Brugge side. United fans will hope to see Shaw continue this incredible run of form as Louis van Gaal‘s side turn their attentions back towards the Premier League.
