West Bromwich Albion are hopeful of signing Manchester United defender Jonny Evans before the close of the transfer window.
Evans has been strongly linked with a move to West Brom in recent weeks, with the club in need of a central defender and Evans seemingly having no future at Old Trafford.
The Northern Irishman has not featured for Man United this season and has not even been named in any of Louis van Gaal‘s matchday squads.
Despite the growing concern over United’s central defenders and their lack of leadership in the position, it seems as though Evans has reach a nadir.
Evans featured 14 times for United in the Premier League last year and 19 times in total but he has become the forgotten man since a spitting incident involving Papiss Cisse of Newcastle United last term.
Everton, Stoke and Newcastle United have all been mentioned alongside Evans’ name but Tony Pulis and West Brom have placed him high on their list of priorities with Joleon Lescott being told he can leave the club.
Marcos Rojo, Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett are all presumably higher on the pecking order than Evans and while United are in no way secure at the back they do have enough options to sell him without fear of remorse in the future.
