Manchester United sceptical of fresh David de Gea bid – report

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United don’t believe that Real Madrid will make another bid for David De Gea this summer, according to The Telegraph.

De Gea has been subject to long term interest from Madrid, with the Spanish club making a bid for the goalkeeper earlier in the transfer window.

Man United have taken a staunch approach over the keeper, insisting that the goalkeeper will not be sold unless a Madrid player comes the other way; Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale are amongst those rumoured to be wanted as part of any potential exchange deal.

But with Madrid reluctant to sell any players, the entire debacle seems to have gone stagnant, which means that any more discussion between the two clubs this window is very unlikely.

The saga, which has resulted in the goalkeeper being ostracised by van Gaal, has been an unwelcome distraction and, more importantly perhaps, a catalyst for the speedy breakdown in the Spaniard’s relationship with the manager.

With the European Championships coming up next summer, De Gea will be keen to perform well, even if it’s under a manager he isn’t keen on. His undoubted quality, which has seen him churn out results for United singlehandedly in recent times, would be a valuable asset as van Gaal’s side attempt to mount a title challenge.

Either way, United fans everywhere will hope to see any ambiguity surrounding the situation quickly eradicated as the transfer window nears its conclusion.
