Javier Hernandez to join Bayer Leverkusen in £12m deal

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is to join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth a reported £12m.

The Daily Mail says Chicharito said his goodbyes to this Man United team-mates after disembarking the plane flying back from Swansea and will now make his move to the German side.

The striker had been given a second chance this season by Louis van Gaal following an unsuccessful loan spell at Real Madrid.

However, as the transfer window draws to a close, van Gaal has now told the Mexican he is free to leave Old Trafford in order to find a new club.

Leverkusen have wasted no time in their pursuit of Hernandez and now look to have finalised a deal for him.

Hernandez’s departure would leave Man United with just Wayne Rooney in their list of senior strikers, with the inexperienced James Wilson as van Gaal’s second-choice striker.

Needless to say, this move would further hinder United’s attacking potency, and subsequently drive their title ambitions into the mire.

Any club aspiring to win domestic silverware needs an accomplished and reliable strike force; but as it stands, United are miles away from that. They have, however, reportedly made a €50m bid for Monaco’s Anthony Martial.
