The former Barcelona man has been left out of Man United’s travelling squad on numerous occasions this season after a reported bust-up with Louis van Gaal.
It was reported last week that the 33-year-old was close to joining Turkish side Besiktas, but negotiations are now understood to have broken down, paving the way for the Spanish international to complete a move to Marseille.
With David De Gea expected to join Real Madrid today, the news that Valdes is set to leave will only serve to frustrate United fans even more.
Many supporters feel that Valdes is United’s best keeper after De Gea, and to let him go would significantly weaken the strength-in-depth United have in the goalkeepers position.
The jury is out on Keylor Navas, who is reported to be part of the De Gea deal, and it is hard to understand why van Gaal doesn’t just put his differences with Valdes to one side let him fight for a place in the first-team, especially considering Sergio Romero‘s poor performance against Swansea City on Sunday.
