Former Manchester United player Phil Neville believes Anthony Martial would prove to be an excellent piece of business for the club.
Martial scored nice goals for AS Monaco last term and was part of the team who eliminated Arsenal from the Champions League, so has experience under his belt.
Having recently seen him up-close, Neville believes the youngster could turn out to be a good addition to Louis Van Gaal‘s side.
“If he were to sign, he would be an excellent late addition to the Manchester United squad.”
With rumours of Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann flying around for some time now, United’s interest in Martial was completely out of the blue.
However, the 19-year-old found the net nine times for Monaco as a first-team player last term which is a great return for somebody so young and he has been likened to a young Thierry Henry for some of his characteristics.
With United still failing to excite in-front of goal, the potential transfer of Martial is exciting and also fits in with the club’s ethos of buying young players and helping them progress. However, a £36m fee for a player who at present, is only raw potential, is expensive.
United fans will hope that van Gaal knows exactly what he is doing by placing his trust in a 19-year-old, as failure to sign a top-class striker this summer could see the club struggle to keep pace with the title contenders.
